Numismatics is an auxiliary historical discipline, studying the history of coinage and monetary circulation of coins. Coin is a metal ingot of a certain shape, weight and dignity, which serves as a means of institutionalized treatment. The Greeks attributed the invention of coins to the heroes of their myths, the Romans – to the gods Janus and Saturn. According to their views, ancient coins with the head of two-faced god nose knocked out the ship after the god Janus in time of Saturn, which arrived to Italy from Crete on a ship.
In our time, it is well established that the earliest coins have come out from the VII century BC.; they were made of electrum – an alloy of silver and gold. Several decades later, there was started the manufacturing of coins in the Greek town of Aegina. They were minted from silver and differed in shape from the Lydian. They suggest that in Aegina the coin was invented later but regardless of Lydia. From Lydia and Aegina coins quickly spread throughout the Greece colonies and later in Iran. Then they came to the Romans and many barbarian tribes. Coins were invented independently in India and China. Moreover,
China’s first coins were cast presumably still in the XII century. BC. The basic numesmatic form is the coin club, but we know that coins can be rectangular, and polygonal and of irregular shape. Almost every coin has a face side or obverse and reverse side, or the reverse. The exception is one-sided coin, including bracteates (coins of fine silver plate XII-XV cc.). But they are compared to the huge mass of bilateral coins. In the definition of the front and back sides of the coins there is no unity. In the old numismatic literature front side features the governor.
It has now been in practical work – the front side of the coin should be regarded as that which his image or legend defines its nationality. If talking about it and the image and the legend, then the determination of the parties are preferred by the legend. Each coin collection has a herd – a side (or, as some say, the generator) the surface of the coin mug, located between the planes of the front and back sides. The edge is made to prevent malicious paring of the precious metal in circulation. Collecting coins is one of the most popular hobbies around the world. Collecting coins is also possible when playing online rummy. we wish you nice collecting! :)
